Kiana
is located on the Kobuk River in Northwestern Alaska, approximately
30 miles north of the Arctic Circle, in “The Land of
the Midnight Sun.”
The
village sits on a bluff overlooking the confluence of the
Kobuk and Squirrel Rivers and is home to 400 Inupiat Eskimos.
In addition, Kiana is the jump-off point for exploring the
Kobuk Valley National Park. The Park is famous for the Great
Kobuk Sand Dunes, 400,000 migrating caribou and unspoiled
scenery.
This
area of Alaska is only accessible by plane or boat and is
over 300 miles from the nearest connecting road system. Our
neighbors are the undisturbed fish and wildlife which abound
in the area. |
